(Kampala International University; College of Humanities and Social Science, 2008-06) Taban, Thomas
South Sudan has been experiencing a lot of problems since independence in 1956 when the colonialists handed over the instruments of power to the Arabs who are the dominant in the north, eventually led to mistreatment of the southerners and poor development of the south, therefore this study was used to find how the people are copying up with the socio-economic effects of the violent civil conflict that have taken two decades. Both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection methods were employed by the researcher for obtaining information from the local community and government administrators in Yei County of south Sudan concerning the socio- economic effects of the violent Sudanese civil conflict that took place between the Arabs north who are Muslims and professed to the Arab world against southerners who are mainly the black race and followers of Christianity. The study findings revealed that the southern Sudanese community is a community of hard working people who have the potentials for development most of them are participating in agricultural production and small scale business of manufactured goods with their neighboring countries. The study recommended that the NGOs together with the government need to clear land mines to facilitates resettlement, full implementation of the comprehensive peace agreement, counseling needs to be encouraged at the local levels, the need to design plans to build more social amenities and the government need to restore justice to support the local communities.
