- ItemInfluence of Home Environment on Academic Achievement of Students in Public Secondary Schools in Kitswamba Sub County Kasese District(Kampala International University, School of Education, Open and Distance and E-learning, 2018-11) Thembo, PhilipThe study aimed at investigating the influence of home environment on academic achievement of students in public secondary schools in kistwarnba sub county, kasese District and it was guided by the following objectives; to determine the influence of parents economic status on students academic achievement in public secondary schools in kistwamba sub county kasese District, to establish the influence of parent/family involvement on students academic achievement in public secondary schools in kistwamba sub county, kasese District, to investigate the effects of parenting style on students academic achievement in public secondary schools in kistwamba sub county kasese District. The study used the cross sectional design based on both qualitative and quantitative research approaches. This was because it would enable the researcher to generate quick self-reports from the participants under the study. The information for this study was gathered by use of questionnaires as the main research instrument. The questionnaires were administered to the head teachers, students and PTA chairpersons from the selected, the study revealed that the majority of the respondents strongly agreed with the statement that increasing family income is associated with an increase in student’s academic achievements; majority of respondents agreed that parent’s attendance to the school education days was good; the majority of the respondents strongly agreed with the statement that children of parents who are authoritative are associated with high question achievement The study recommends that; the government should increase the bursary allocation to students from poor families so as to retain them in school to enhance their performances, the school administration need to increase the number of education days for parents so that parents can be more involved with their students’ academic achievement, parents ought to improve their parenting styles as this can affect their children’s academic achievement.
