    Managerial Competencies and Project Success of Non-Governmental Organizations in Makindye Division, Kampala Uganda

    The purpose of this study was to assess how managerial competencies contribute to project success in makindye division, Kampala Uganda, since the project managers have responsibilities for the project success and ultimate delivery of the project success. This study considered a descriptive ;survey research design and it was guided by the following objectives; (i) to establish the factors hat lead to projects success in NGOs. (ii) To establish the competencies of project managers in NGOs. (iii) To assess the effects of project manager’s competencies on projects success. The data was collected from 109 respondents in 5 non-governmental organizations that use project based structure by questionnaire, which was designed and developed for this purpose. Collected copies questionnaire were checked and coded against SPSS. After checking normality, validity, and, reliability, the results show that there is a significant effect of project managers’ competencies on project’s success. Experience rated the highest importance, followed by skills and finally knowledge. The results could standardize the selection procedures and implement similar Approaches in improving •and managing projects in makindye division. Additionally, other suggestions related to project management improvements were introduced such as the use of ~Belbin team roles test for training requirements” and software application that manages projects, prograrns and portfolios across the organization.
