- ItemEvaluation of the Anti-Bacterial Activity of Bioactive Fractions from Ethanol Peel Extract of Ananascomosusagainst Escherichia Coli(Kampala International University, School of Health Sciences., 2017-12) Tumuhaise, VincentAntibacterial resistance is not only increasing the healthcare costs, but also the disease severity and death rates from certain infections that could have been avoided, prevented or treated by newer and more effective antibacterial agents. However, the antibacterial activity of bioactive constituents of the crude peel extract obtained from Ananascomosusis yet to be known. This is the research gap the present research wants to fill. l he general aim of the study was to isolate and identify the anti-bacterial bioactive constituents in the crude ethanol peel extract of Ananascomosus. ;\ suitable amount of Ananascomosuspeels were obtained which were then grinded and pulverized with the help of ethanol solution to obtain a crude ethanol peel extract of lmmuscomosus. A solvent extraction process on the crude extract was carried out to obtain Jive fractions which were then tested for antibacterial activity, phytochemical constituent screening plus MIC and MBC of the bio-active fractions. Of the five fractions obtained from the A nwwscomosuspee1 extract, only three fractions showed antibacterial activity against FscĀ·herichia coli. The extraction of the pulverized Ananascomosus peels with 95% v/v ethanol gave a percentage yield of 8. 9%. The preliminary phytochemieal screening of the 5% wiv extract revealed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and steroids constituents. Therel
