    Motivation practices and employee performance: a case study of Sembule Steel Mills Uganda Limited

    The purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between motivational practices and employee performance in Sembule Steel Mills Uganda Limited. The study was guided by three objectives including: To examine the role of motivational practices on employee performance in Sembule Steel Mills Uganda Limited, to examine the effect of motivational practices on employee performance in Sembule Steel Mills Uganda Limited. To establish the relationship between motivational practices and employee performance in Sembule Steel Mills Uganda Limited. The study used a sample size of 45 respondents from the various departments such as Production department, marketing department, sales department, accounting department and top management through interviews and filling in questionnaires Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and tables. According to the study findings Motivational practices have got different roles such as Increases productivity of the staff, reduces labor turn over in the organization, and Increases commitment of the staff, inspiring the workforce and Increases teamwork in the organization as well. All these roles strongly create an impact which directly motivates the employees to work towards attaining the goals of the organization. Furthermore, the study findings reveled that motivational practices have got some negative and positive effects towards employee performance such as. The positive effects included Empowerment of employees. Job satisfaction and also leads to achievement of individual goals and objectives. The negative effects are as follows: Poor management of the motivational practice and increased costs of production. From the study findings it was revealed that there is a close relationship between motivational practices and employee performance and thus motivational practices can directly influence the performance of employees in an organization. Motivated employees usually gain a sense of belonging and commitment to the organization leading to attainment of organizational goals and objectives - The study recommended that the that the management puts more emphasis on motivational practices as a tool to implement long term strategy and can help to improve its relationship with the staff so as to raise their performance so as to gain the goals and objectives of the organization
