    Prevalence and associated factors of urinary tract infections among pregnant women attending antenatal care in Kiryandongo General Hospital

    Urinary tract infections (UTI) is a common problem in women most especially pregnant women. This can lead to morbidity, miscarriages, abortions and sometimes death. The study aimed at determining the prevalence of UTI and associated factors among pregnant women attending ANC in Kiryandongo general hospital This study examined the prevalence of UTIs and associated factors in 100 pregnant women attending ANC in Kiryandongo general hospital from June 2017 to December 2017 where retrospective descriptive study was used where retrospective review of medical records from which required data was obtained The general prevalence of UTI was 18% while the age specific prevalence was 9%(15-19), 17.5%(20-25), 12.5%(26-30),33%(31-35),33%(36-45) associated more with maternal age >31years, low socioeconomic status, no education ,being married, increasing gestational age. Urinary tract infections are common during pregnancy .it occurs in all age groups of pregnant women however with increasing age, the prevalence of UTI increases therefore they should be well investigated earlier for better management and care in order to prevent the complications both to the mother and the fetus
