A Case Study of Manaret Location, Sotik District.(Kampala International University, School of Education, 2011-12) Yegon, ShadrackThis paper explores the issue of early marriage in Kenya. It shed light specifically on reason behind its perceptions, its harmful consequences, a barrier to education band enjoyment of girls’ human rights and how it further threatens the development of the county. The finding from an extensive reading of materials related to early marriage suggest that early marriage is due to various factors including among others. The search for economic survival, protection of young girls, peer group and family pressure, controlling female behavior and sexuality, wars and civil conflicts and socio-cultural and religious values. The study employed as descriptive study design with triangulation of both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis. The qualitative methods, involved, in-depth interviews with key informants, observation, documentation, and focused group discussions. The quantitative methods involved were the use of questionnaires; a total sample of population of 80 girls and boys were reached fort its study. In conclusive remarks, in my study in Manoret location. It was clear from the onset that certain conditions are important in curbing early marriage on girl child, assisting victims of past and present of early marriage and incorporating at~ stakeholders in sensitizing people about the impact ofearly marriage. The recommendations in terms of measures to combat EMGCE including the need for early marriage legislating, strengthening community network, transformation of socio-cultural norms, getting men involved in activities for combating this common disease of early marriage on girl child, all this is aimed at improving the status of girl child within the society and enable them participate meaningfully in the development.
