    Organizational commitment and job satisfaction among lecturers in universities in Embu County Kenya
    (Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2013-12) Zabed, Gitonga Muringi
    The study sought to answer questions on the profile of the respondents, the level of organizational commitment among the lecturers, level of job satisfaction among the lecturers and the relationship between organizational commitment and job satisfaction among the lecturers in Universities in Embu County. Using descriptive correlational survey research design, and a sample of 166 respondents, the study found out that there are more male than female lecturers in Embu county universities, majority of the lecturers are aged 51 and above, and most of the lecturers are masters holders and above. The study further discovered that there is fair levels of organizational commitment as well as fair levels of job satisfaction. The study further discovered a significant positive relationship between organization~~ commitment and job satisfaction among the lecturers in Embu County Universities. The study recommended that since Job satisfaction plays a very important role in the education process. But the situation in Embu County is not the best. Lecturers, usually, do not know how to improve their commitment to their universities. It is strongly recommended that staff development programs should be initiated by the universities to help the lecturers advance academically as well as increase their job satisfaction. Finally the researcher recommends that universities should provide forums in which lecturers can freely interact with their heads and share their opinions about job satisfaction and organizational commitment. All in all the universities should establish good working conditions so as to help the lecturers do their jobs effectively and efficiently
