- ItemComputerized Academic Transcript Procession(Kampala international international : School of computing and Information technology, 2005-07) Nyeko, Charles Megolonyo; Filder, LakaaFor the last few years, technology has spread so fast. Every institution wants to computerize its system. Unyama National Teachers’ College is one of the institutions. This institution is a teachers’ training school whereby every year, students graduate after completing their course (takes two years). This therefore calls for an efficient and timely way of processing the students’ transcript. A full analysis of the current system was done and problems being faced noted down. With knowledge gained from class and the noted problems, a new system was designed. Due to shortage of time allocated and inadequacy of resources, the task is reduced to computerization of transcript processing. As such, research is undertaken, analysis done, recommendations given and a system designed and implemented to replace the current manual transcript processing system.
- ItemModeling and Implementing a Stores Management Information System Using Vb6 and Ms-Access Case Study: Kitante Hill School(Kampala international international : School of computing and Information technology, 2005-07) Senyonjo, Nelson DouglasKitante Hill School has a total of 15 departments (i.e. Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer, Art, English, Islamic Religious Education, History, Geography, Political Education, French Luganda, Mathematics, Agriculture departments) all of which highly utilize the services of the school store. Apparently, the School predominantly uses a manual system to process information on incoming scholastic materials from suppliers. There is use of bin cards and tabulated query logbooks to capture and store day-to-day details (i.e. receipts quantities, items worth, disbursement and balances). With the current methods in place, data arrangement, tallying, summarizing, detecting of shortages and generation reports at the end of the month leaves a lot to be desired. The system is undeniably lengthy, error prone and susceptible to data piracy. Inefficiency and inaccuracy of data input and output may easily cause discrepancies and errors in reports so generated. With awful security levels and high rate of human intervention, Kitante Hill School risks information corruption, loss and leakage to unauthorized personnel. The smooth running and automation of the operations of the school store is thus of paramount importance

- ItemThe extent of Internet use in selection and acquisition of library materials in Kampala International University(Kampala International University; School of Computing and Information Technology (SCIT), 2007-07) Lubuulwa, PatrickThe research was carried out at Kampala International University library with the purpose of establishing the extent of Internet usage in the selection and acquisition of library materials. The study was guided by the following objectives: to examine the effectiveness of Internet usage for selection and acquisition, the challenges faced as well as establishing the recommendations to those challenges. Questionnaires were distributed to all the library staff of KIU since there were no designated personnel for selection and acquisition. Two interviews were also conducted with the head librarian and her deputy. It was found out that Internet usage for selection and acquisition of library materials was to a small extent because some staff did not actually know how it could be used for this purpose, there was no automation program in place yet. The only uses of Internet for this purpose were acquiring catalogs from vendors, communicating with some vendors and donors as well as acquiring bibliographic details of books, The internet has not yet been utilized to place orders with vendors, make payments for resources and all the other routines involved. In order for the library to reap the full benefits of Internet usage in the selection and acquisition of library materials, the library should fully automate its selection and acquisition routines. The library staff should be trained in the utilization of the Internet for the same purpose.

In the case study of the Rift Valley Railways, the objective was to develop a cost effective computerized human resource management system. The researchers developed a system which was user-friendly and could be readily adopted by other organizations. A database was developed to store the user’s information. It had the capacity to improve on its services and to attract more clients who use the service. It also had a database storage system which could act as a backup and support the preliminary system. It would be capable of storing the user’s information separate form daily reports of the organization hence keeping information from the human resource department separate from that of the public, a key security measure which is crucial in information technology in the present time. These were achieved by the use of informatory research tools in combination with the research methodology, with tools such as system development life cycle (SDLC), prototyping and Joint Application Development (JAD) consequently software for instance PHP in hand with MYSQL server it was possible to accomplish the task. This was expected to increase efficiency and ease the work for the human resource department of the Rift Valley Railways. - ItemA computerized records management database system for Edgar’s Soccer Academy(Kampala International University, School of Computing and Information technology, 2008-10) Segirinya Saidi, Segirinya; Michael, KanyoroSoccer Academies today necessitate a competent administration when managing all entities in the academy systems. These entities may include the staff members, trainees (players), registration processes, grading process and attendance as well as their discipline which I believe is a key factor for better Academy performance. Unfortunately, Edgars Soccer Academy does not have a Computerized Records Management System to efficiently perform these administrative tasks. To check for registered trainee, on has to check in the manual filing cabinet for the registration file and look at the registration forms one at a time until he/she gets the trainee’s information which is very tiresome and time consuming. Tracking of trainees’ attendance records both weekly and monthly is also tedious as roll call sheets are not that durable. For the case of trainees performance, grading of trainees marks is tiresome normally the trainer(coach) has to enter the marks of the trainee and check for the grade in which those marks fall, which is very tiresome given the number of trainees whose marks the coach has to grade. The method of storing the Academy’s financial information also possess a security threat to sensitive data and as if that is not enough follow up of trainees’ disciplinary records in the Academy is so tedious. For registration of both staff and trainees, these records are very important for both the sake of the Academy’s history and the trainee, thus these records should be as accurate and as reliable as possible. This research project aimed at developing a Computerized Records Management Database System that centralizes all the management of entities in the Academy. In order to achieve this goal, a thorough System Study and investigation was carried out on the existing Academy reporting system through the use of questionnaires, interviews and observation methods in order to discover its operations and its weaknesses and the data collected was then analyzed using document and data flow diagrams
