It emphasizes how data is stored and maintained in a database as regards to students personal information, course enrollment and fee management. Data is entered into the database using the input forms of student’s registration. The context diagram as shown in the later chapters will show how data flows in the database and the attributes connected to the entities. Data management should be given first priority and Database Management will put this into effect by user to achieve their full potential and objectives.
- ItemModeling and Implementing a Stores Management Information System Using Vb6 and Ms-Access Case Study: Kitante Hill School(Kampala international international : School of computing and Information technology, 2005-07) Senyonjo, Nelson DouglasKitante Hill School has a total of 15 departments (i.e. Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Computer, Art, English, Islamic Religious Education, History, Geography, Political Education, French Luganda, Mathematics, Agriculture departments) all of which highly utilize the services of the school store. Apparently, the School predominantly uses a manual system to process information on incoming scholastic materials from suppliers. There is use of bin cards and tabulated query logbooks to capture and store day-to-day details (i.e. receipts quantities, items worth, disbursement and balances). With the current methods in place, data arrangement, tallying, summarizing, detecting of shortages and generation reports at the end of the month leaves a lot to be desired. The system is undeniably lengthy, error prone and susceptible to data piracy. Inefficiency and inaccuracy of data input and output may easily cause discrepancies and errors in reports so generated. With awful security levels and high rate of human intervention, Kitante Hill School risks information corruption, loss and leakage to unauthorized personnel. The smooth running and automation of the operations of the school store is thus of paramount importance

- ItemEvaluating options of wireless local area network (lan) security solutions: case study of the world food programme - Uganda(Kampala International University, School of Computing and Information Technology, 2006-07) Mary, AmongiThis project focuses on wireless network security and in particular it evaluates the security solutions being used by the case study organization, with its major focus on assessing the level of wireless local area network security awareness and procedures of WLAN use. It explores the possible methods of securing IEEE 802.11 based Wireless LANs. The project frames the WLAN implementation within the context of the overa WLAN security design for organizations. The design solution represents a policy-based approach to security. This type of approach focuses on overall design goals and translates those goals into specific configurations, policy enforcement, procedures for WLAN use and guidelines for management to use when selecting a suitable WLAN security solution. In the context of wireless, it is recommended that organizations should also consider network design elements such as strong policy framework, mobility and quality of service (Q0S) when deciding on an overall WLAN design. This report contains five chapters. Chapter 1 begins with a general Introduction of the project, stating its objectives and scope among other things, and then chapter 2, details the specific WLAN security technologies in the literature review. Chapter 3 explains the methodology used during the study. The findings from the study and results analysis are explained in chapter 4. Finally, chapter 5 then concludes the report with recommendations and future study.

- ItemA computerized records management database system for Edgar’s Soccer Academy(Kampala International University, School of Computing and Information technology, 2008-10) Segirinya Saidi, Segirinya; Michael, KanyoroSoccer Academies today necessitate a competent administration when managing all entities in the academy systems. These entities may include the staff members, trainees (players), registration processes, grading process and attendance as well as their discipline which I believe is a key factor for better Academy performance. Unfortunately, Edgars Soccer Academy does not have a Computerized Records Management System to efficiently perform these administrative tasks. To check for registered trainee, on has to check in the manual filing cabinet for the registration file and look at the registration forms one at a time until he/she gets the trainee’s information which is very tiresome and time consuming. Tracking of trainees’ attendance records both weekly and monthly is also tedious as roll call sheets are not that durable. For the case of trainees performance, grading of trainees marks is tiresome normally the trainer(coach) has to enter the marks of the trainee and check for the grade in which those marks fall, which is very tiresome given the number of trainees whose marks the coach has to grade. The method of storing the Academy’s financial information also possess a security threat to sensitive data and as if that is not enough follow up of trainees’ disciplinary records in the Academy is so tedious. For registration of both staff and trainees, these records are very important for both the sake of the Academy’s history and the trainee, thus these records should be as accurate and as reliable as possible. This research project aimed at developing a Computerized Records Management Database System that centralizes all the management of entities in the Academy. In order to achieve this goal, a thorough System Study and investigation was carried out on the existing Academy reporting system through the use of questionnaires, interviews and observation methods in order to discover its operations and its weaknesses and the data collected was then analyzed using document and data flow diagrams

- ItemAn information sysytem for a judicial court of law case study: the high court of the Repuplic of Uganda at Kampala (Registry Section)(Kampala International University, College of Computing and Information Technology, 2008-11) Imbayi K, Stanislaus; Mogeni, Obed NyakinaData storage and retrieval is a big challenge in most organizations, especially in most government institutions and parastatals, but the cost to secure management information systems remains a hurdle. However JURISS LAW SOFTWARE comes into rescue. This document is written for the basic computer user (magistrates, chief justice, lawyers, advocates and court clerks) and the system administrators of JURRIS LAW. The study involved the design and implementation of an information system for the High Court of Uganda that will provide easy, accurate and timely retrieval of all case records. The problem was carefully analyzed and steps to solve it were drawn. Various literary works were reviewed, in chapter two of this document. This was done to get an overview of what has been done before concerning the problem. An overview of an information system is given as well as various concepts patterning its implementation. Although not all data storage systems are classified information you do not want data stored on the papers to fed out or be torn due to the documents being torn .The issue of data safety is also addressed. The development methodology and tools have also been discussed in detail in chapter three. This includes, knowledge acquisition and analysis, data collection techniques, development tools and system validation. Details of the new designed system, like system specification, user interfaces and data flow for the new system are discussed in chapter four of this document. System testing, data conversion and loading, approaches of implementation of the new system, user training and manuals system evaluation details are also discussed in chapter five. In chapter six, the limitations of the package, recommendations and areas of further research are tackled. We hope the reader will have a wider perspective of an information system and how it can be used to securely improve record keeping in many institutions

- ItemDesign and implementation of advertisement and information web portal using PHP, MYSQL and Apache Technologies case study: soft zone Group(Kampala International University, School of Computing and Information Technology, 2008-12) Nairobi, Kenya; Mwika Alan, JamesThe project involved design and implementation of an online information and advertisements portal for SOFTZONE GROUP. This system is able to act as a catalogue of information that captures the attention of people from all walks of life. The website offers a gateway to other websites belonging to registered companies that wish to advertise to the world their services and/or products in a more affordable way. The website offers services like anonymous email services and e-newsletter services. The critical approach to this project was based on the fact that success of such a website depended on the ability to meet customer needs and continuously introduce new services that compete effectively in the current growing market. The main objective of this project was to design and implement an e-commerce site that serves as the portal of information. Such information is offered through paid-for advertisements and/or other tradeoffs agreed, while attracting site visitors through innovative features such as emails and subscription for e-newsletter. The execution of this project was limited to planning, analysis, design and implementation of an ‘Online Advertisements and Information system’ hosted on a website. Designs evolved from system requirements by interpreting the structural views of the information. i.e., processes, logic and data models. Throughout the project, feedbacks where forwarded to the next level of activity and this made each step more productive than the previous. I am pleased to have managed to meet the deadline and present the project with full compliance to the original user specifications.
- ItemInformation management systems for a micro-finance case study: Dts micro finance(Kampala International University, School of Computing and Information Technology, 2008-12) Joseph, K. Too; Adam, Ibrahim AhmedThe main objective of the study was to develop a management information system for a microfinance company that would assist the organization to run its activities efficiently. This is by design a user friendly and interactive system with high reliability and good security which can compile a report that help improve the general management of a micro finance company and handle business transactions efficiently. Currently most people in Uganda are going for microfinance services. This is because they can easily access its services rather than Banking facilities whose charges are very high. For microfinance organizations to efficiently manage their operations they must have a computerized system in place. The system should be able to handle its data and process all the transactions as required by the organization. The study looked into the different managerial aspects and the transactions carefully in order to build the system which caters for all the business needs of a microfinance organization. This will enable the organization to run smoothly and deliver to the society. The clients’ data will be safe and will not risk losing their money and will boost the clients’ confidence in the company and the company will grow.
