- ItemThe effects of indiscipline on Students Academic Performance in Shanamu, Bombo High School,Gangama,Parish, Luwero District.(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning., 2009-08) Namuli, AminaThe study seeks to determine the relationship between indiscipline and academic performance of pupils in Shanamu, Bombo High school, Gangama, Parish, Luwero district The specific objectives of the study were to determine the impact of Jndiscipline on the academic performance of students, investigate the causes of indiscipline by secondary students in Shanamu, Bombo High school, Gangama, Parish, Luwero district Uganda. And Identify solutions to the problem of school discipline. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the pupils and interviews with the teachers. The study revealed that indiscipline pupils do not excel in academics. Poverty, ban of corporal punishment, large classes and lack of parent's ability to discipline their children were mentioned as the major causes of indiscipline. The study recommended that School authorities and teachers should identify the reasons for children's misbehavior and therefore deal with the problem. Parents and teachers should work hand in hand to discipline children. Parents should realize that they play a bigger part in disciplining their children. Effective and less violent means of disciplining children should be devised. For example schools should make sure they have counseling services to help such children.
- ItemImpact of Post Election Violence on Academic Performance Of Learners in Eldoret Town in Uasin Gishu District, Kenya.(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning., 2009-11) Wanjeri, Catherine MukuhaThe purpose of this study was to determine the Impact of Post Election Violence on Academic Performance of Learners in Uasin Gishu High school, Eldoret Town, Kenya. Specific objectives of the study were to: Investigate the Psychological effects of post election violence on learners, determine the Effects of post election violence on the quality of teachers, investigate the Effects of post election violence on school infrastructure and school resources, determine Post election violence and school drop out and determine the Effects of post election violence on the quality of education. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the teachers, interviews with the pupils and focus group discussions with the community members. The findings revealed by 44% of the respondents that post election violence leads to trauma in children, another 40% of the respondents strongly agreed that post election violence leads to children being withdrawn and 46% of the respondents agreed that Post election violence has led to memory impairment in children 40% of the respondents strongly agreed that Post election violence has led to shortage of teachers in some areas. 60% of the respondents strongly agreed that many schools were burnt down in the post election violence 60% of the respondents strongly agreed that some learners lost their parents and hence dropped out of school. 30% of the respondents strongly agreed that teachers are few due to post election violence which affects the quality of education, 46% of the respondents strongly agreed that Schools do not have enough learning materials and hence quality of education is jeopardized and 36% of the respondents strongly agreed that Schools do not have enough learning materials and hence quality of education is jeopardized The study recommended that: Government, non government organizations and schools should come out and help children who _have suffered psychologically by availing counseling services in schools and the community at large. Government, non government organizations and the community should come together and rebuild schools and avail learning resources that were destroyed during post election violence so that children have where to study from. Setting up of education insurance for the children especially those who were orphaned due to post election violence.
