- ItemARVS and the Health Status of HIV/ AIDS Patients in Mawogola County in Sembabule District(Kampala International University, diploma in guidance and counselling, 2010-06) Kyebale, DanielThis study was carried out in Sembabule H/C IV, Mawogola County, Sembabule District in Southern region of Uganda aiming at establishing the relationship between ARVs and the health status of HIV/AIDS patients in the area. The study was guided by the following objectives: To establish the relationship between the access to ARVs and eligibility of HIV patients, the mode of action of ARVs and the health status of HIV patient, and the availability of ARVs and the health status of HIV patients. The study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey involving males and female, those admitted in the health facility and those from out patient department. A self administered questionnaire was subjected to a number of 60 respondents. Data collected was compiled and analyzed manually using simple scientific calculator, and the visual observations detected during the responses to verbal interactions. The results were interpreted and presented in statements, figures and tables. Results indicated that; Majority of respondents 28 were in age category 31-04 years. There were more males 32 (53%) than females 28 ( 47%). Most of participants were Catholics 28 more than other religions. Majority was peasant farmers 38, 8 were house wise, 7 self employed and the civil servants were the least. All respondents were trained before taking ARVs and majority had tested for a period more than 6 months. However majority 34 (57%) had signs of AIDS before testing. They were all initiated to ARVs, 48 were taking drugs on schedule. From the findings, the researcher concluded that HIV/AIDS is high among people of age between 20-40 years. ARVs are initiated to those people with reduced immunity and are well tolerated and improve the health status of respondents though there is a report of side effects. From the conclusion, there is a need to sensitize the community on the occurrence of HIV in all populations and the availability of ARVs in the facility with their influence in promoting the health status of HIV / AIDS patients.
