The chapters are preceded by the Preliminary pages which act as instruction to the research work. The title°e talks about absenteeism and academic performance of selected pupils of Agulu Primary School, which is a case study school representing other schools in Siaya District. A declaration has been made stating that the work is original and completely belongs to the undersigned. Acknowledgements have been made to various personalities who have contributed to the success of this project. The next section has the table of contents followed by the list of figures and tables. A brief definition of terms has been included as the last part of the preliminary pages. Chapter one contains the Introduction part of the work. The researcher has given the background of the work, a statement of the problem, purpose of the study, objectives of the study, scope and finally significance of the study where the beneficiaries of the findings have been outlined. In chapter two, important literary works by various scholars touching on absenteeism have been discussed. The major issues discussed here include the causes, the results and the solutions to absenteeism as viewed by these scholars. Chapter three contains the methodology. Here research design, sampling procedure, instruments and procedure used in the research process has been discussed. Data analysis methods have also been discussed in this chapter. The next Chapter (4) contains the major findings from the research field based on the objectives of research. The final Chapter of this work (5) contains the discussions conclusions and recommendations all based on the research findings.
- ItemAbsenteeism and the performance of learners in primary schools in Nkondo sue-county Kamuli District(Kampala International University. College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2008-09) Godfrey, Michael MukamaMany politicians and educationalists argue that a lot of domestic work, long distances and poor feeding affect the performance of learners in primary schools, so the purpose was to investigate absenteeism and performance of learners in primary school in Nkondo Sub County, Kamuli district. The objectives of the study were to find out how domestic work, long distances and poor feeding affect the performance of learners in primary schools. The instrument that were used included; questionnaires, group discussion, interview and reading the available materials or data. It was carried out in six schools that covered 96 respondents that is six headteachers, 18 teachers and 72 pupils. The findings from the study revealed that pupils and teachers are absent during school hours because of the long distances they move from home to school everyday, poor feeding both at school and home and domestic work they do at home yet they are expected to be at school.
