- ItemDeforestation And Environmental Degradation: A case Study of Aberdare Forest Central Province, Kenya(Kampala International University, bachelors in Science Degree in Environmental Management, 2007-11) Waswa, Dorina CellarDeforestation in Africa has been a consequence of a combination of factors including agricultural expansion, commercial harvesting, increased firewood collection, inappropriate land and tree tenure regimes and industrialization. Drought, civil wars and bush fires also contribute significantly to deforestation. (F.A.O 1997, 1998). The main variables to be considered included the factors leading to deforestation (cases), the consequences of this vice on the environment, what has been done to mitigate these consequences and the way forward through the suggested recommendations. A general survey research design was used in carrying out the study. Methods of data collection include questionnaire and interviews, direct ,, observation, photography and literature review. The deterioration of natural resources in this forest has not only destroyed the environment, but also undermined the very foundation on which economic growth and long-term prosperity depend.
