Abstract
A descriptive study was undertaken in Tindiret educational zone to examine the determinants of early childhood education. The following objectives guided the study; to assess the quality of teachers and how they interact with their pupils and to assess the curriculum activities; methods and instructional strategies that had been adopted in early childhood education centers. The instrument used was a questionnaire and 30 teachers were the respondents to the instruments. Findings showed that the class size was overwhelming for the teachers and this was negatively influencing the quality of education in ECE centers. However most of the required facilities were present in the centers and this was a factor that could enhance learning. The strategies that teachers were using however not appropriate to what had been recommended in the national association for the education of the young children. Practices such as guidance of children behavior, assessment of children and daily teaching of Art and Music. The following were recommended; to increase facilitation to avoid overcrowding. Government to train teachers especially for early childhood education and teachers to attend workshops.
