Abstract
Secondary education is a fundamental base for literacy and a means of acquiring basic skills and positive attitude to enable individuals fit in the society. This is the reason why Kenya has heavily invested in Secondary education as evidenced by the introduction of free Secondary education in January 2003 in all public Secondary schools. Despite this investment, Secondary education is faced with the school dropout challenge as evidenced by school dropout in Mumbuni Zone. It is not clear how the school as a factor could be leading/affecting students' school dropout. Therefore, this study aimed at investigating the effect of the school factors on student's school dropout in Mumbuni Zone of Machakos District Kenya. This involved a sample of four schools. The stratified random sampling was used to select the sample. Head teachers and teachers' questionnaires with open ended question were used to collect data. Percentages and frequencies were used to analyze the extent of school drop out in the respective schools. The main findings were that school factor has an adverse effect on student’s school dropout in Mumbuni Zone
