Abstract
The purpose of study was to determine the effects of child abuse on the academic performance of pupils in Ainabkoi zone in Eldoret East district Kenya. The specific objectives of the study were; to determine the effect child abuse on the academic performance of pupils, to investigate the relationship between Child abuse and emotional behavior, to investigate the relationship between child abuse and violence and to investigate the common types of child abuse in Ainabkoi zone in Eldoret East District. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the teachers and focused group discussion with the pupils. Findings indicated that child abuse had a negative consequence on the academic performance of pupils in Ainabkoi zone in Eldoret East District. Recommendations included Government making sure the culprits of child abuse are punished according to the law to prevent escalation; also Schools should devise means of identifying children who have been abused and help them by for example providing counseling services; lastly the community should be sensitized on the dangers of child abuse and how to prevent it
