Abstract
This study examined teacher related factors and the integration of audio visual aids in instruction of geography in Trans Nzoia district Rift valley province Kenya. The following objectives guided the study; to examine the availability and usage of Audio visual aids by Geography teachers in selected schools in Trans Nzoia West district, Kenya. To establish the influence of skills/Competence/gender differences on the teachers attitudes towards the use of Audio visual aids in Geography instruction. To determine how Audio visual aids used in instruction affect academic performance in geography subject. The sample study consisted of 16 secondary schools drawn from study population through the process of purposive random sampling. The instruments used to collect data were the inventory and a questionnaire. The analysis of data was also carried out. The findings showed that the performance level of students in geography was low. The number of teachers in post did not match the approved teacher quota per school. Based on findings, it was recommended that more specialist teachers in geography should be recruited and posted to all secondary schools in the district. The ICTS together with the ministry of education should intensify efforts in monitoring schools to ensure that teachers use the appropriate teaching method that would enhance effective teaching of geography in all schools in the nation.
