Abstract
"Human Rights are very fundamental to the development of the society. At all times, they must be promoted and protected by all persons. Both domestic and international law protect the various existing rights which are inherent and which every individual is entitled to. The provisions of the law are quite specific on the rights protected, rights of which may be derogable or non-derogable. The protection of these rights are the utmost responsibility of the state. The state through its apparatus ha to ensure that in performing the duties imposed, Human Rights are not violated. Therefore it is the responsibility of the police to protect and preserve Human Rights whilst performing its duties and exercising its rights. The study will discuss how and whether this has been done.
