Abstract
This project was designed to investigate the effectiveness of preschool feeding
programmes within the Mathene Slum Nairobi prince Kenya.
Information was gathered by use of qUestionnaires filled in by preschool
adminiStrators, teachers and parent observation checklists and interview
schedules were also used by the researcher which gave detailed information that
could not be captured by the qUestionnaires.
From the study it was noted that the quality of meals served in most preschools were not that balanced moch as they tried to provide the children with the
correct classes of food. Recommendations were; a need for all stakeholders and
development partners in ECE sector to be mobilized through nutritional education
and intensive awareness campaigns for them to embrace SFPs, develop policies
and programme guidelines for preschools to organize locally supported SFPs.
This can be done by tapping upon experiences of WWs. Through campaigns and
sensitization the public should be informed on matters pertaining to gender
imbalance.
