Abstract: The research was carried out in Lyantonde Town Council, Lyantonde District to find out the effect of socio-economic status on pupils' academic performance. The researcher used questionnaire administered to pupils' and used a descriptive research design to conduct the study. The challenges are low levels of education by parents, Majority of parents are farmers with limited income to meet their needs, increasing number of orphans due HIV/ AIDS and other related diseases. The recommendations for the challenges that were found out are promoting adult education, poverty eradication, controlling epidemic diseases like HIV/AIDS, malaria and Ebola, among others. In conclusion improving academic perf01mance of pupils' in Lyantonde Town Council needs combined efforts of the government, parents NGOs to improve on performance of pupils' especially socio-economic development of Lyantonde Town Council.
