Abstract
The study was conducted in coca-cola company, Mbarara town and the study was intended to investigate the existing procedure used in production scheduling, ICT staff skill levels and availability of ICT resources at coca-cola Company. Furthermore the study looks at the analysis of data, construct, test, validate and implement the decision support system basing on the requirements for efficient and effective production scheduling management at coca-cola company. This report covers six chapters; and these are as follows: Chapter one, which has the introduction, background of the study, problem statement, objectives, significance and scope of the study. Chapter two is literature review looking at suggestions of other workers’ researcher on related studies of decision support system for production scheduling, chapter three has the methods, data collection tools and Ethical considerations. Chapter four has the findings of the research study; chapter five includes the development, design and requirements used in developing the new system. Chapter six covers Discussion, conclusion, recommendation and Areas of further study. The system prototype was developed and implemented using Microsoft visual studio 2005 as an interface and SQL server 2005 for database. This scheduling system can be adopted for use in industries, schools, hospitals and other institutions that require scheduling production. To mitigate the problems caused by this complexity, a decision support system for production scheduling for the implementation of scheduling system is presented in this study, which integrates various scheduling techniques forcing the researcher to come up with new idea of developing a decision support system for coca-cola company. Specifically this system allows user name and passwords created and provided by the system administrator in the company to access the system through an intranet based on the user rights and permissions. The scheduling information stored in a central server. All the services provided by this system, have been made available on the organizations’ intranet. It is recommended that coca-cola company should use the system developed.
