Abstract
The research sought after investigating the practices in insurance underwriting and management in Uganda, to establish how information technology can be used to enhance information awareness and delivery to people. Using qualitative research methods, the study revealed that an integrated information sharing platform could provide great improvements to the manual and paper based processes used in insurance underwriting and awareness in the country. The research made an all-embracing review of literature in the field of insurance so as to establish trends and determine the need for information awareness and delivery based on information technology. The literature review further looked at issues regarding key terms, concept of c-insurance, current issues within the insurance industry, application of E-insurance, opportunities for E-insurance, management of insurance both at local and international levels, laws governing insurance business. The research therefore developed a web based E-insurance system to ensure quick information delivery. The data is stored in the insurance database, access is only provided to authorize users through a secure web interface. The database was designed using MySQL (My Structured Query Language).
