Abstract
The purpose of the study was basically to establish the Impact of industrial disputes on the performance of Kenya Power and Lighting company. The key objectives were to establish the relationship between proper handling of industrial disputes and performance of Kenya Power and Lighting Company. Simple random sampling was used to select the sample. 70 respondents were randomly selected, data collection was done by the researcher herself, questionnaires were given to respondents to fill ‘with the help of the researcher. Data collected was analyzed and finally tabulated. The finding of the study indicates that there is a relationship between handling industrial disputes and organization performance. It also indicates that industrial disputes have a greater impact on the performance of the organization. The recommendation indicates that, the management and the entire controlling body of Kenya power and lighting company should accept the fact that there are disputes existing between them and the employees hence they should lend an ear to them. The management should encourage involvement and participation of employees as it is the most appropriate way of understanding one another thus minimizing the existing differences and disputes. There should be formal way in which grievances and complaints are forwarded otherwise if none exist, disputes will never be on the decrease. Employees' compensation and remuneration plans should be reviewed in order to ensure that overtime dues are well administered. The management should put in place methods in which conflicts and disputes are addressed within the organization as this will help in reduction of disputes and ultimate improvement in performance of the organization. The management should as well introduce other programs of improving employees' performance such as delegation, empowerment, use of incentives, and career planning.
