Abstract
The topic of the study was Poverty and Pupils' Academic Performance in selected Primary schools in Lwamaggwa Sub County, Rakai District The study was carried out in Lwamaggwa West Sub County, Rakai District It is located central district of Uganda. The main objective of this study is to establish the relationship between poverty and academic performance among the people of Lwamaggwa West Sub County, Lamwo District Specific objectives were to; to examine the causes of poverty in Lwamaggwa West Sub County, Lamwo District, to determine the effects of poverty on academic performance in Lwamaggwa West Sub County, Rakai District and to suggest the solutions to poverty on academic performance in Lwamaggwa Sub County, Rakai District The researcher used a sample comprising of the administrators, staff, and support staff of Lwamaggwa West Sub County, Rakai District , local community leaders, residents, and teachers in selected primary schools. A section of religious leaders, local council officials and elders of the community will be sampled to participate in the study. The research findings indicated that the majority of the respondents said there were acute causes of poverty which included; warfare 22%, agricultural cycles 18%, centralization of power 20%, corruption 07%, and environmental degradation 06%. The researcher strongly recommends that; the governments make easy the process of accessing the loans in Women Microfinance Institution because it has a great contribution to building the institutional image.
