School administration and academic performance of students under government cost sharing system of secondary education; a case study of secondary schools in Homa Bay County in Kabunde Zone, Kenya

Abstract
The research was concerned with administrative factors that affect the academic performance of students in government secondary school under cost -sharing system. Objectives of the study were ;one to establish administrative factors that affects students performance in school, to determine how teachers factors affects students academic performance and to identify possible measures for improving school administration in order to achieve excellence in academic performance. Using cross —cross sectional survey research design, the sample employed in the study was from the secondary schools. The researcher made use of questionnaire technique to collect data. The data was categorized through the use of descriptive statics with aid of frequencies, percentage and central tendencies. The major findings off the study were leading and managing change as stressing factor to school administrators, delegation of responsibilities, and lack of accountability of funds administrative and social relationships. Lack of motivation in terms of low payment of salaries, promotion to higher level ,low educational level. In conclusion lack of accountability, stress and motivation emerge to be the major factors of administration that contributes to poor performance. Recommendation included, the need for school administrators to be trained and equipped with management skills to be able to handle and address specific needs of school well in order for a better performance.
