Abstract: | In many developing countries such as Uganda, teenage pregnancy has been one of the major hindrances to the educational success of girls (James, Auerbach & Tlakula, 2000). As more young women remain in school past puberty in sub-Saharan Africa, more students are exposed to the risk of becoming pregnant Mensch et a!. (2001). Ministry of Health Statistics Uganda (2007) showed that early pregnancy rate in Uganda is 90 per cent and the implication thereof is that the majority of teenagers do not complete their secondary schooling. The report from the ministry of education recently released statistics showing that almost 100,000 school girls in Uganda became pregnant in just one school year. This has had a devastating impact on the schools as many of these students performance in academics is affected. It is based on this that the researcher sought to investigate the impact of early pregnancy among the teenage girls. |
