Abstract
The central problem of this study is the major causes of behavioral problems among learners in Public Primary Schools in Mombasa District. A student behavioral is quite dismal. Root cause of indiscipline in these learners are several of them such as family, school environment, biological causes and inherited traits, psychological or emotional problems, conflicts, social and cultural influences. Due to the above factors the emotional and behavioral problem in public schools is increasing at an alarming rate and the performance being affected. The study sampled schools using random sampling techniques using the criteria of Public Primary Schools in Mombasa District from the sampled schools, on equal number often schools were selected thus two schools in every cluster. Data was collected using a questionnaire from teachers. Then the collected data was analyzed using tabular form. The main technique used to analyze data was category, frequency and percentage. The major finding was that all Public Schools in Mombasa are experiencing the problem of children with emotional and behavioral problems. Causes of behavioral problem are poor family upbringing, school environment and other factors. The common ages that are experiencing emotional and behavioral problems are those who have attained puberty and adolescence stage. Based on these findings, it is recommended teachers to assist by Guiding and Counseling use.
