Abstract
The study is about the role of text books and other learning materials. It was establish the relationship between instructional materials and academic achievement of the ECD centres and~ how they acquire these materials. School children, especially those found in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) stages need to learn through the use of martial. Learning has been known to take place more through seeing than hearing. Many modem schools have understood this fact and are putting more emphasis on them. The study is therefore about the role of teaching and learning materials in facilitating learning. It will Endeavour to investigate the stress out by both private and public ECDS to the acquisition and use ofteaching and learning materials. The research design will be descriptive ~urvey aimed at gathering information from the target population. The tools used are open and closed ended questionnaires that will help the researcher source the primary data. The sample frame will be drawn from the sample population of ECD schools in Bartabwa Zone. Simple and purposive sampling techniques will be adopted to provide the sample. Purposive sampling used to select Bartabwa Zone. Simple random sampling will be used to identify 8 ECD schools out of 12 schools within the zone. This provides a more than 66.7% of the target population. Computer packages such as Microsoft Excel to enable presentation in frequency tables, graphs and pie charts for easy interpretation and understanding by the users. It was discovered schools should be stocked with enough relevant teaching instructional materials like textbooks, charts and all education stakeholders to come together to implement education policies.
