Abstract
The study carried out an investigation on the effect of drug abuse on the behaviour of pupils in regular primary schools. The study was carried out from Kalawani zone, located in Mbooni District of Kenya. Available literature indicates that a number of factors are responsible for the incidence of drug abuse among the youths. The most profound ones include; peer pressure, stress, burnout, distorted! corrupted values, breakdown of traditional values, pressure from work, lack of employment school pressure among many other factors. The researcher applied both qualitative and quantitative research design in presenting and interpreting the research findings. The technique of data collection used was mainly the use of questionnaires and interview schedules. Selection of the samples was based on a simple Random sampling procedure so as to give all the respondents equal chances of participating in the study. Research findings revealed that drug abuse has impacted negatively on the behaviour of pupils ranging from school dropout, poor performance in school, psychological torture, health hazards, aggressive behaviour, memory loss, to mention. A number of measures have been recommended so as to put the practice of drug abuse to an end or at least to reduce it to a minimum. These measures among others include; creation of awareness on the dangers of drug abuse, penalties against the offenders, parental guidance and counseling, creating a stress free environment for pupils in schools, good community role models to mention.
