Abstract
Deforestation has become an issue of Global Environmental concern because of the value of forest in biodiversity conservation and in limiting the greenhouse effect. The major objective of the study is to investigate the impact of deforestation on the Environment in Uganda. Specifically, the study aimed at finding out the values of forests to the Environment, investigating the factors responsible for the persistent deforestation, determining the impact of deforestation on the Environment and formulating measures for solving the problem of deforestation. The study was carried out in Kamdini Sub-County, Oyam District. A sample of 120 respondents was selected. This was a small sample compared to the total population of people of Uganda but given that this was an academic study coupled with limited financial resources, this sample was commensurately appropriate. A variety of data collection methods were used. These include interviews, observations and photography. These participatory research methods provided an opportunity for respondent to take for themselves without attribution and highlight their resources. Study findings highlighted a general lack of sustainable development. They indeed revealed that a few people practice sustainable use of the Environment. The study recommended that further research on this be made in future.
