Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate “Oil exploration and economic welfare in Uganda “A case study Kitoba sub-county Hoima district. The study targeted three major objectives to be explored; to determine the contribution of oil exploration in Kitoba sub-county, to determine the level of economic welfare in Kitoba sub-county and to establish the effect of oil exploration and economic welfare in Kitoba sub-county. The study applied a cross-sectional research design method so as to assess the objectives of the study. The data was analyzed using pie charts, histograms, tables with frequencies and percentages plus a regression model to get relationships in data collected findings on housing, hospitals, educational level among others. Basing on the findings, the data collected was by use of a questionnaire were by qualitative and quantitative approach of analysis was used, a sample of 127 respondents were used and simple random sampling and purposive sampling were used because respondents had equal chances of being selected. Data were coded and entered in the Computer and cleaned, checked and statistically analyzed using (STATA) software package to generate descriptive and inferential statistics. The study found out that there was increased land grabbing correlated with road construction in response to the compensation of residents in areas where road construction took place; respondents strongly agreed that there was creation of temporary employment. It was concluded that oil exploration has not significantly improved the level of economic welfare in Kitoba sub-county. According to the findings, the researcher recommended that the Government of Uganda should encourage private company participation, reduce smuggling of oil, give immediate attention to the indigenes, and improve on infrastructures like roads, health facilities, and educational level among others
