Abstract
The study sought to establish the relationship between cash management and performance of selected small and medium enterprises in Hargeisa Somaliland. The study was guided by three specific objectives, that included i) determining the extent of cash management; ii) level of performance of selected small and medium enterprises; iii) the relationship between cash management and performance of selected small and medium enterprises in Hargeisa Somaliland. This research employed descriptive correlational design to describe the relationship between cash management and performance of small and medium enterprises. The findings revealed the following: majority of respondents in this sample ranged between 18-30 years and these were male (59.6%), 31.6% were Bachelor’s degree holders and had spent 3-5 years in selected small and medium enterprises. Data analysis using means showed that extent of cash management was found to be satisfactory (over all mean=2.59), and the level of performance of selected small and medium enterprises was found to be satisfactory and this was indicated by the overall mean (mean 2.62). The extent of cash management and performance of selected small and medium enterprises are positive and significantly correlated. The researcher recommended that; the researcher recommends that selected small and medium enterprises in Hargeisa Somaliland should always look for the ways to generate more revenues from using less resources should also produce high quality products should also try to improve cash projections and should set up guide lines by the business to ensure that it has optimal cash balances at any time. And lastly the researcher encouraged prospective researchers and even students to research on the following areas; cash management and profitability of small and medium enterprises in Hargeisa Somaliland, cash flow management and performance of small and medium enterprises in Hargeisa Somaliland; and cash control and performance of small and medium enterprises in Hargeisa Somaliland.
