Abstract
This study was to determine the correlation between teacher quality and Teachers’ Effectiveness’ in Selected Private Schools in Hargeisa district of Somaliland. The study was guided by four objectives: to identify the demographic characteristics of the respondents in terms of, age, gender, level of education, number of years of working experience, marital status; to determine the level of teacher quality in the selected secondary schools in Hargeisa District: to determine the level of teacher effectiveness in the selected secondary schools in Hargeisa District and to determine the if there is significant relationship between teacher quality and teachers’ effectiveness. The design of this study is descriptive survey which adopted the descriptive correlation strategy,Out of 1942 respondents, comprising of 62 teachers and p105 students,33 teachers, and 270 students were selected respectively, using simple random sampling technique. A standardized instrument adopted from Kampala International University Quality Assurance Department was used in collecting data on demographic characteristics, teacher’s quality and teachers’ effectiveness. The profile characteristics of the respondents was determined using frequency table and percentages, mean was used to determined the level of teacher quality and teacher effectiveness and the hypothesis was tested with Pearson’s Linear Correlation Co~efficient. The researcher found that teacher quality and teachers’ effectiveness are significantly related, and the relationship between them is strong. Therefore, the null hypothesis was rejected. In conclusion, the level of teacher’s quality is high,, the level of teachers’ effectiveness is also high and they are positively and significantly related. The researcher recommended that the targeted schools have to sustain the level of teacher quality and effectiveness by training their teachers further on the use of technology in class and utilize various teaching techniques in class. Furthermore, the researcher recommended that teachers emphasize critical thinking, stimulations and introduce case studies to the students.
