Abstract
A descriptive and quantitative study was undertaken to examine the impact of religion on academic performance of the pupils in selected schools of Bibirioni sub location. The specific objectives that guided the study included, to find out whether the pupils attendance is affected by religious practices; to find out if religious upbringing affects the learners ability to participate fully in school activities, to find out whether religion influences the children’s ability to interact; and whether religious upbringing influences the learners ability to accomplish their tasks. The researcher constructed questionnaires for the purpose of gathering information from respondents. Findings revealed the following; Religious education has beneficial effects to all aspects of social concern and mostly to education; religious beliefs and practices lower divorce, abuse of alcohol and drugs, domestic violence. Children who are brought up free of the above will obviously excel in academics. Children who are brought up in religious families finish their assignments just like any other children, religion is therefore a great tool which can be used by parents to lay a firm foundation for education. The following were recommended; parents and teachers and public to be sensitized on the significant role of religion. That government should have initiatives on helping the general community be able to identify religious fundamentalism in the area. The ministry of education to emphasize on comprehensive teaching of religion.
