Abstract
The study was about the influence of early pregnancy on Girl-Child education in Nangonde Sub County, found in Namutumba District. It was guided by three specific objectives, namely; to find out the causes of early pregnancy, the effects of early pregnancy on Girl-Child education and the measures that can be adopted to curb early pregnancies in primary schools. Using a sample size of 81 respondents, the sample population was stratified based on common characteristics and each member in a single category was randomly selected till sample size for each was generated. Results were reported using mean scores and mode. It was concluded that causes of teenage pregnancy include: Teenage Drinking, lack of Knowledge on Abstinence, parents who force girls to marry, lack of Close Follow-up by Parents, and lack of tight school rules and regulations. The effect of teenage pregnancies on girl child education in Nangonde Sub County include; effect on thinking ability making Girl-Children give up, loss of morale for education, lowering incomes thus no affording academics, school dropout’s, and expulsion from school. On the measures that can be adopted to curb early pregnancies, it was concluded that there is need to tighten rules and regulations in schools involve community in preventive programs, and advice for the use of contraceptives. It was recommended that parents strongly influence their children's decisions by taking the time to be involved when the issue of sex arises. In addition, schools should do their part by providing the necessary information on preventing pregnancies and by encouraging teens to make responsible choices when having sex.
