Abstract
This study focused on the “the effects ol illegal hunting on the tourism sector in Uganda a case of Lake Mburo National Park.” The main objective of the study was to analyze the illegal hunting on the tourism sector using a case Study of Lake Mburo National Park, with the following specific objective; to investigate the causes of illegal hunting to analyze the effects of illegal hunting on tourism sector, to analyze the solutions against illegal hunting to and investigate the challenges faced when implementing solutions against illegal hunting. The research study employed both quantitative and qualitative methods because it provided detailed knowledge about the illegal hunting on the tourism sector. This study also utilized a cross sectional survey approach. The population comprised of 200 individuals from which a sample of 82 respondents was obtained. The study findings revealed that the causes of illegal include: hunting for fur, decoration and other economic values tradition and culture overhunting for food, hunting for fun and overpopulation. The effects of illegal hunting were: extinction of species disrupts migration and hibernation endangerment to the general wildlife and their habitats as it affects food chain. The research study further indicated the solutions as: enforcement of strict laws, sharing revenue with local communities support or fund conservation agencies, avoid buying products with animal parts and awareness creation. The challenges of implementing solutions against illegal hunting include: human population growth, climate change. Human-wild life conflicts, poverty and wildfires. The research study concluded that the causes of illegal hunting were hunting for fur and decoration. The effects of illegal hunting like extinction of species disrupts migration and hibernation endangerment to the general wildlife. The solutions against illegal hunting for example enforcement of strict laws sharing revenue with local communities support and the challenges faced when implementing solutions against illegal hunting were human population growth and climate change in Lake Mburo National Park. The research study recommended on the effects of illegal hunting as; establishing guidelines for ecological sustainability of the tourism industry for example development of an accreditation system and identification of’ local community benefits. The stakeholders and communities should have knowledge regarding regulations thus Fostering dialogue and involvement with all partners, developing new and potential destinations with specific focus on habitat conservation, local community involvement, and sustainable by and developing hunting and fishing as important elements of integrated natural resource management which I inks productivity with the environment and society of Lake Mburo National Park.
