Abstract
Web based applications like Internet banking can be accessed worldwide by anyone via the Internet. An integrated secured authentication algorithm is a two factor authentication comprises of "something you know" i.e. passwords & username and "something you are" i.e. face scan biometrics. With the identity theft on the rise by fraudsters this study aimed at minimizing identity theft by imposters making sure the claimed identity is real on the web based or Intemet banking applications. The main objective of this study is to develop a two factor authentication algorithm and develop a prototype for evaluation and testing before implementations. We used indirect recursive algorithm and rapid prototype model as a method for writing the two factor authentication algorithm and prototype development in J avaScript. The algorithm was established with password trial limitation in other to minimize guessing and dictionary attacks and also the user must be present at the scene of verifications which was the outcome of our findings. In conclusions the two factor authentication algorithm had dealt with a number of issues associated with the existing single factor authentication on the Intemet banking and we recommended the adoption of two factor authentication in web based applications and facial recognition biometrics for password recovery. xi
