Abstract
The study was carried out to identify the challenges of hearing impairment to learners in Nunguni Zone, Kilungu Division, Makueni District, and Eastern province of Kenya. The researcher used the survey method and questionnaires to collected data from the respondents. The sample comprised ten teachers from ten schools thus one teacher from each school. The researcher found the causes of hearing impairment in the area to be diseases, witchcraft and curse. The researcher found out how hearing impairment affects learners performance. The researcher found out that hearing impaired learners are socially ignored and neglected by teachers, the other learners and the community at large. This greatly affects their performance. The researcher also identified challenges faced by the teachers when teaching hearing impaired learners. He also established intervention measures for teaching of the deaf. The researcher recommends that governments of various countries should train more teachers in special needs education so as to help learners with H.I. Community should be sensitized on the causes of hearing impairment and the intervention measures available
