Abstract
This study entitled the impact of Domestic Gender Based Violence on Academic Performance in selected primary schools in Abok Sub-County oyam District was properly researched under the following objectives. (1) Establish the causes and various forms of GBV cases in Abok sub-county Oyam District. (2) Find out the impact I effect of Domestic Gender Based Violence on academic performance of pupils in Abok Sub- County. (3) Identify possible ways of curbing the escalating domestic Gender Based Cases in the community of Abok Sub-County. The study was conducted in five (5) primary schools of Abok sub-county. The schools include those in chapters three (3) Atotal of 73 respondent consisting of pupils, teachers, head teachers, police. The study used descriptive survey design and employed both qualitative and simple quantitative techniques in data analysis. The primary data collection tool was the questionnaire. The findings indicated that Domestic Violence was still so much felt in Abok Sub-County but mostly used as a way of disciplining children women. Children experienced various negative emotions causing truancy and in attentiveness in school, poor performance and low self-esteem. Community felt that canning of children was a good drilling method. In view of conclusion done, the following recommendations were made:- 1. Perpetrators of Domestic Gender Based Violence be arrested and prosecuted. 2. Teacbers, counselors and parents should provide compassionate and supportive environment to the school children to aid the victims. 3. Sensitization of the community constantly on the negative impacts of GBV and initiate others mild ways of helping children. 4. Ministry of education and sports (MOES) to constantly mentor school counselors or the various wings of GBV atrocities in school community. 5. Parents should be empowered with alternative skills and techniques of disciplining children which do not result in domestic violence.
