Abstract: The study dwelt into the effectiveness of learning materials, on the academic performance of young learners in pre-school. The study aimed at examining the effect of introducing the learning material as opposed to cases where teachers go to class with their notes without physical examples. A test was used as a research instrument to measure the knowledge thus the study employed the experimental research design. The prepared test was used to determine whether there is a significant difference in performance between pre-school pupils taught using teaching materials and those taught with materials. The experimental group was exposed to learning materials while the control group was taught without learning materials. The findings of the study revealed no significant difference in performance in the pre-test while in the post-test the difference was seen. Basing on these findings, it was concluded that learning materials improve the performance of children not only academically but physically and emotionally. It is seen when a child jumps up and laughs. When she/he has performed well in the given exam. The study recommends that for improvement in the performance of pre-school children and to enhance teachers' delivery to the young one all schools and teachers at pre-school level in Kisumu municipality need to adopt a system of using teaching/learning resources whenever they go for the teaching /learning process.
