dc.description.abstractThis research is based in Iganga district, a place found in Eastern Uganda comprising of Bantu speaking people particularly the Basoga who speak Lusoga language. Ownership of property and Gender-based violence occurs in all societies of the world, within the home or in the wider community and it affects all persons that is to say male, female and children however in relation to denial of property ownership. the most marginalized group is the women and girls because land is more associated with culture and customs .The intended research identified the root cause’ of un equal distribution of property between men and women, how property is generally owned among the Basoga and how property distribution causes gender based violence, the other causes of gender based violence other than un equal distribution of property, the international and national legal frame work on property ownership and gender based violence, the effect of un equal distribution of property. Legal effectiveness and the likely legal dangers associated. The findings will help to educate Ugandans on the laws available to protect victims of gender-based discrimination in Uganda, their effectiveness and the likely crimes that the public must realize before falling victims. It also suggests what social studies curriculum should contain so as to solve the problems of gender-based violence in the societyen_US
