Abstract
This report was derived from topic resource availability and academic
performance is selected primary schools in Chonyi Zone Kilifi District Kenya.
The objectives were to determine the profile of the respondent To determine the
profile of the respondents in terms of gender, age, education qualification and
tenure of service of teachers and marital status, to determine the level of
resource availability in the selected primary schools in terms of human resource,
chairs, textbooks and physical facilities, to determine the level of academic
performance of the pupils in the selected primary schools and to establish if
there is a significant relationship between the level of resource availability and
academic achievement of the pupils availability and achievement of the pupils.
The study design used was survey and correlation design which allowed the
researcher to adequately and effectively involve the respondents. The study
population consisted of 265 teachers together with pupils and the sample size
was made up of 127 teachers together with pupils. Basing on the findings
resources were found to be inadequate, pupils performance fair and that there is
a very strong significant relationship between resource availability and academic
performance of pupils. The study therefore recommended that non governmental
organizations and government in collaboration with parents, need to support and
improve the level of learning resources. Performance of learners should also be
encouraged by introducing more competitive atmosphere to motivate learning
culture in school.
