The researcher was out to find the teachers’ attitudes and learning of speech and language of hearing impaired learners. She introduced by saying what the hearing sense was and its purpose in life (Morse 1979~. The researcher brought out the views of the communities towards these learners. Hearing impairment was defined by various authors, class~fication, problems faced by the children in learning and the intervention measures to be taken were noted. Education of hearing impaired learners was recorded citing authors for the same. Placement which is influenced by the child’s abilities was also shown. The approaches that nrc used were described at length citing Meyen 1990, Morse 1979 and Bruce 1973. Attitudes were also explained by the researcher citing Hegarty and Polington 1982. All relevai-i~ literature was cited and data analyzed showed that there were few learners with hearing impairment in the school, the research was carried out. The academic performance ofthe school would be affected if learners with hearing impairment were accepted in regular schools. The researcher found out that the current education system needed adjustment in the curriculum to suit the learners. The teachers who would accept learners in their school would do it only with incentives. The researcher recommended that there should be creation of awareness to all regular teachers and the community, teachers should be motivated with incentives and the curriculum should be adapted.en_US
