Abstract
The study was set out to investigate the relationship between the effective welfare management and the employees satisfaction, particularly in the Department of Education in the head office Temeke District, Dar-EsSalaam region in Tanzania. Employee welfare includes monitoring of working conditions, creation of industrial harmony through infrastructure for health, industrial relations and insurance against diseases, accidents and unemployment for the workers and their families. Through such generous benefits the employers make life worth living for human resources, employee's satisfaction in personnel's' terms means they are contented with their work and positions. The objectives of the study were to examine the effective welfare practices used in Department of education in Temeke District of Tanzania, to examine factors affecting employee satisfaction in the Department of Education in Temeke District of Dar Es Salaam Tanzania and establishing the relationship between effective welfare management and employee satisfaction in the Department of Education in Temeke District of Tanzania. The methods used in this research study were all about questionnaires to collect data, structured and unstructured questionnaires were extended to respondents which needed short and precise answers. The researcher used as well, employee stratified random sampling and simple random sampling techniques. The study findings established that the significant correlation between overall job satisfaction and overall effective welfare management confirms the alternative (positive) hypothesis. That is, as job satisfaction increased, the effective welfare management increased as well. The positive but weak significant relationship between overall job satisfaction and overall effective welfare management found in the present study confirms what has been found in other studies on job satisfaction and effective welfare management. The researcher recommended that management in the Department of education should increase the extrinsic satisfaction of their employees by increasing their remuneration to levels that match the market conditions. Management can periodically consult salary surveys to determine what employees in other departments are being awarded so that they could give their employees' remuneration that is commensurate with what other Ministries are awarding their employees. This is advantageous in that it instills job satisfaction in employees and reduces unwanted behavior such as absenteeism and labor turnover.
