| dc.description.abstract | The study was “Impact of women participation in local politics in Rwanda” the main problem was to know what could be the result of women’s efforts in local politics. The study pursued three objectives namely describing women in local politics, identifying their interventions and determining to what extent they expertise brunt in local politics. This descriptive study has been conducted through qualitative and quantitative approaches. The sample size obtained by Solvin’s formula included 142 women representatives in local politics. The findings indicate that women by numbers are still less represented in local politics where they are less than 18% on average; there are 17.6% in Social Affairs and O% in sector leaders. As characteristics the bulk of them are young bellow 36 years old, protestant members with secondary school level at 83.8°k, both single and married at 71.1% and 46.5% engaged in politics by personal initiative. Twenty-six-point one percent (26.1%) came from business and 26.8% from parastatal positions. Women are intervening through child advocacy, paving way for women NGO5, conflict reduction, solidarity and pacific cohabitation, tension and vulnerability attenuation, socio-economic status, education, health and they are appreciated for their efforts. In local politics meetings are many times held by women, their ideas and decisions are taken into consideration, the culture of sharing experience between men and women is this time normal and they are heading decision making and elective positions like men. The presence of women is now very important in local politics. Educated women, Nyamagabe district and the Government are recommended to identify challenges of women in order to create the political environment that facilitate and increase their political participation for the better impact. | en_US |
