Abstract
This study investigated about dependency ratio and poverty in Makindye division, Kampala district. The study was guided by the subsequent objectives; to determine the level of dependency ratio in Makindye divisions, Kampala District to determine the level of poverty in Makindye division, Kampala district and to establish the effect of dependency ration on poverty in Makindye division, Kampala District. The study used descriptive survey design with a sample size of 104 respondents; however, only 58 participated in the survey. The questionnaire was used as the major research instrument. Data was analyzed using frequency and percentage tables, mean and standard deviations, pie charts as well as graphs. The study found out that the level of dependency ratio was high in Makindye division. Kampala district. The study further revealed that the general level of poverty in Makindye division. Kampala District is high. The study also revealed that there is a
strong negative effect of dependency ratio on poverty in Makindye. The study concluded that when there is a high level of dependency ratio, there is a resultant likelihood of severe poverty and the reverse holds.
