dc.description.abstractDespite the IUD’s numerous advantages, rates of use remain low in many areas of the world and have even declined recently in some developing countries. Significant factors that adversely affect use of IUD have been described in various areas. This study aimed to establish the factors mitigating use of intrauterine devices among women attending Jinja regional referral hospital. A prospective cross-sectional study design was used to conduct this study in which 323 consenting women were recruited. Simple random sampling method was used in recruiting the study participants. 323 respondents were included in this study. Of these 6.3% were using IUDs. 78.9% had knowledge about IUDs as a method of contraception. IUD use among women attending Jinja hospital is still very low. Respondents are well aware of the available options for contraception but knowledge about IUDs is still low among the women attending Jinja hospital. Promotion of the key benefits of IUDs, Intensifying advertisement of IUD service sites, provision of specialized counseling for prospective clients were recommendationsen_US
