dc.description.abstractThis study was undertaken to investigate the correlation between single parenting and family welfare in Narumoru Division in Nanyuki Town Council. This was after the realization that over the years, the number of single parents in Kenya is on the rise. The specific objectives of the study were: to establish the causes of single parenting, and to find out the effects of single parenting on family welfare. The research design took the form of case study of Narurnuru Division in Nanyuki Town council. The study involved purposive sampling of a pre-determined sample size of 45 respondents. The data collected were qualitative. Primary data were collected through interviews and observations while secondary data were got from the review of literature related to the study. The data were analyzed qualitatively through the literal description and narration of the emerging issues out of which conclusions were drawn. The study established that the causes and effects of single parenting are multifaceted and that both the causes and effects are interlinked. The causes range from death to religion, family background, poverty, domestic violence, women emancipation and age while the effects include alcoholism, depression, anxiety, child neglect, freedom, fall in standard of living, and emotional stress. The study recommends that there is need for equity in opportunities, strengthening of the family values, arid counseling services. The study concludes that the causes of single parenting have far reaching effects on family welfare that are cultural, social, economic and psychological with women and children the most vulnerable.en_US
