dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to investigate the impact of budgetary allocation on the performance of public institutions at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in Mbarara-Uganda and the specific objectives of the study were, to establish the relationship between budgetary allocation and performance at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, to establish the budgetary allocations at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital and to establish the challenges faced in budgetary allocations at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. From the research study findings, budgetary allocation was seen as an important tool in planning and control of resources to boost performance in various public and private institution. However the factors like good quality employees, external interference and human resources among others must be addressed by administration in addition to budgetary allocation to encourage effective performance. The study found out that there is a positive relationship between budgetary allocation and institutional performance of 0.75 Generally recommendations regarding budgetary allocation include; all employees should be motivated to make them strive to achieve the set objectives. The process of budgetary allocation in Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital —Uganda should be comprehensive covering not only department but even the sections of the institutions in order to sufficiently avail funds and ensure that all the needs of the institution are catered for in the budget. Budgets should also be realistic but not putting much emphasis on past performance and budget formats and also reflect the current trends of the environment in all aspects and the future. Also Mbarara Regional Referral hospital should look at other factors that directly affect performance. These include qualified personnel to monitor and implement the budget, the changes in the demand of services offered by the institution in order to suite the need of the public, fully communicating the budget to all the stakeholders if it is to be achieved in order to smoothen the implementation performance.en_US
